Dossier de premsa

Torroella de Montgrí was already a town of importance during the Middle Ages. Situated in the central part of the Costa Brava, Torroella is not primarily a tourist centre, but there are many attractions that make it worth a visit, such as the traditional architecture of the town centre (13th. and 14th. centuries) and the many historic buildings, mainly from the 18th.  There is also the unspoilt surrounding countryside and the many cultural activities that take place throughout the year.

There has been a strong musical tradition in Torroella de Montgrí since the Middle Ages, when the town was granted a royal charter and the Kings of Aragon were frequently in residence there. An important musical chapel was founded at the end of the 14th. century. In the 19th., active interest in music was maintained with choirs and instrumental cobles, and the tradition has continued to the present day, with year-round musical activity.

Torroella is best known for the International Music Festival, which takes place annually from mid-July until the end of August. The Festival is mainly of classical music, and concerts are held in the Gothic-Renaissance settings of the Church of Saint Genís and the Town Square – architecture unequalled anywhere else on the Costa Brava. Here audiences come to experience performances by famous soloists, renowned chamber ensembles and exceptional choirs and symphony orchestras from around the world.

Do come and find out for yourself. We are sure your visit will be one of the best memories of your stay on the Costa Brava.
