Between 1573 and 1582, a circle of Florentine musicians, intellectuals and artists formed under the leadership of Count Bardi to revive the art of theatrical declamation favoured by the writers of Greek antiquity. From the deliberations and debates of the circle there arose a style of declamation (recitative) and a new genre (opera), which in subsequent years would develop into ever more complex forms of expression.
This concert will enable us to experience some of the most beautiful works to be composed following the guidelines laid down by the Bardi Camerata. From the work of one of the most famous women composers of the early baroque, the Venetian Barbara Strozzi (1619-1664), to the music of the great Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), the concert will be a fascinating demonstration of the great expressive power the seconda prattica style was capable of achieving.
