This concert with Lisboa Central Cafè, one of the most interesting Catalan groups performing new traditional music, takes as its starting point the literary world of Josep Pla and one of the author’s less well-known books, Cartes Meridionals of 1929. The performance combines musical, dramatic and visual elements, and the contribution of the guest musicians adds an extra dimension to the music of the quintet, giving a richer, more Mediterranean sound. Meanwhile, our actor-host David Bagés recites extracts from Pla’s work. The performance is completed by a series of video images filmed specially for the occasion, which will show us Pla’s vision of a number of Mediterranean cities, such as Tangier, Marseille, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona.
Sponsored by the Centre for Promotion of Popular and Traditional Culture, Department of Culture and Communication, Generalitat Government of Catalonia. Joint production of the Torroella de Montgrí Music Festival, the Xarxa de Músiques de Catalunya, the Taller de Músics and Mediterrània-Fira d’espectacles d’arrel tradicional.
