Music has always played an important part in life in Torroella. The tradition began in the Middle Ages when the town was granted a royal charter and the Kings of Aragon were frequent visitors. Subsequently, in the 14th century, a renowned musical chapel was founded at the church, while during the 19th several choirs and cobles (traditional wind bands) came into being.
