The last work of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), the Art of Fugue, BWV 1080, is the title of a new production by the Acadèmia 1750. The subtitle, Canon and Fugue in 18th century instrumental music in Germany and Italy makes clear the intentions behind this concert – a musical journey taking in compositions from both countries that have the form of a canon or a fugue. In addition to hearing some of the Contrapuncti from Bach’s major work, the concert will bring us other examples of the forms by composers including Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, Johann Pachelbel and Alessandro Scarlatti.
Joint production by the Torroella de Montgrí Music Festival and the Acadèmia 1750
